"Shooting Mangroves" -- photo from Key Biscayne, Florida

"Shooting Mangroves"

Mangrove shoots are one of my favorite photography subjects in South Florida. The way they reach tirelessly for air while being surrounded by poisonous salt water is such a powerful metaphor for strength and perseverance. These roots succeed at removing 90% to 97% of the salt in the water they absorb, making them vitally important to the plant's health. If only we were all so good at filtering the negativity that surrounds us. These shoots are located in Bear Cut Preserve, on Key Biscayne, Florida, just outside of Miami.
